Documents Required
You must provide evidence that you meet the residency and work history requirements. Under recent 2025 guidance, the Home Office applies stricter scrutiny to these documents, often requiring a continuous paper trail since 2020.
Identity Documents
- A valid biometric passport or national identity card.
Proof of Work in the UK
- For Employees: Employment contracts, P60s, or formal payslips showing UK-based work.
- For Self-Employed: Invoices for work performed in the UK, bank statements showing payments from UK clients, or UK tax returns.
- Continuity Evidence: You must provide at least one piece of evidence (such as a payslip or invoice) for every calendar year since 2020 to prove you have not had a 12-month gap in UK work.
Proof of Residence Outside the UK
- Utility bills, rental agreements, or mortgage statements for your home in your country of residence.
- Travel records or logs showing your entries and exits from the UK to prove you meet the "primarily resident" test.
