Is the person you are joining (the sponsor) a Slovak citizen?
Documents Required
All foreign documents must be originals or notarized copies and must not be older than 90 days at the moment you submit your application. Any document issued outside of Slovakia must be apostilled (or super-legalized) and accompanied by an official translation into Slovak performed by a sworn translator registered with the Slovak Ministry of Justice.
Identity and Background
- Valid Passport: Must be valid for at least 3–6 months beyond your intended stay.
- Two Photos: Standard passport size (3 x 3.5 cm).
- Criminal Record Clearance: A certificate from your home country and any country where you have lived for more than 90 days within the last three years.
Proof of Relationship
- Certificates: Marriage certificate for spouses; birth certificates for children.
- Dependency Proof: Medical certificates for disabled adult children or documentation proving a parent has no other family support.
Financial and Logistics
- Proof of Financial Means: Documentation showing you have sufficient funds for your stay. This is usually calculated based on the minimum subsistence level (roughly €3,200+ for one year, though this amount is adjusted annually).
- Proof of Accommodation: A notarized lease agreement or an affidavit from a property owner (Čestné vyhlásenie). The property must meet the legal minimum of approximately 12 square meters per person.
Post-Approval Requirements
Once your permit is granted, you have 30 days from the date you collect your residence card to submit:
- Medical Report: A certificate from a specific Slovak clinic confirming you do not suffer from a disease threatening public health.
- Health Insurance: Proof of valid commercial health insurance in Slovakia.
