Eligibility Quiz
Are you the biological or legal parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident?
Requirements
To qualify for a Super Visa, both the applicant (the parent or grandparent) and the host (the child or grandchild in Canada) must meet specific eligibility thresholds.
Applicant Requirements
- Relationship: You must be the biological or legal parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Location: You must be outside of Canada when you submit your application.
- Admissibility: You must be admissible to Canada, meaning you do not have a criminal record or health conditions that pose a risk to public safety or excessive demand on Canadian services.
- Ties to Home Country: You must demonstrate that you are a "genuine visitor." Visa officers will evaluate your property ownership, financial assets, and family connections in your home country to ensure you intend to leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay.
- Dependents: You cannot include your own dependent children on a Super Visa application. Only parents, grandparents, and their spouses/common-law partners are eligible.
Host Requirements
- Status: Your child or grandchild must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a Registered Indian under the Indian Act.
- Age and Residence: The host must be at least 18 years old and currently residing in Canada.
- Income Threshold: The host must prove they meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI). This is based on the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) and varies by family size. As of July 29, 2025, the following annual income requirements apply:
- 1 person (Host only): $30,526
- 2 persons: $38,002
- 4 persons: $56,724
- 7 persons: $80,784
- Note: Family size includes the host’s household, the applicants, and any other people the host is currently sponsoring.
