Documents Required
All documents issued by foreign authorities must be Apostilled (or legalized by a Portuguese consulate) and must include a certified translation into Portuguese.
- Identity Documents: A full narrative birth certificate and a copy of your current valid passport.
- Spouse’s Documentation: The Portuguese spouse’s birth certificate, which must already show the marriage registration (transcription).
- Criminal Records: Original certificates from your country of birth, country of nationality, and every country where you have lived after the age of 16. Note that these are typically only valid for 3 to 6 months.
- Proof of Union: For marriages, the Portuguese marriage certificate. For de facto unions, a certificate of the judicial sentence recognizing the partnership.
- Proof of Ties (If applicable): If your ties are not presumed, you may need to provide evidence such as property deeds in Portugal, residence permits, proof of frequent travel to the country, or membership in Portuguese cultural organizations.
