Do you (the sponsor) hold a valid Portuguese residence permit?
Documents Required
All foreign documents must be apostilled (if the country is part of the Hague Convention) or legalized by a Portuguese consulate. Documents not in Portuguese must be accompanied by a certified translation.
From the Sponsor (in Portugal)
- Residence Permit: A certified copy of your current Portuguese residency card.
- Housing Documentation: A registered lease agreement or deed of ownership.
- Financial Evidence: Recent bank statements, tax returns, or employment contracts showing you meet the subsistence thresholds.
From the Family Member (Applicant)
- Valid Passport: Must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay.
- Criminal Record Certificate: Required from the applicant's country of origin and any country where they have resided for more than one year.
- Proof of Relationship: Marriage certificates, birth certificates, or legal proof of a de facto union.
- Health Insurance: A policy valid for Portugal. Initially, this can be travel insurance, but it must eventually be replaced by private insurance or registration with the Serviço Nacional de Saúde (SNS).
