Eligibility Quiz
Do you (the sponsor) hold a valid Portuguese residence permit?
Requirements
To act as a sponsor for your family, you must hold a valid Portuguese residence permit. Under the 2025/2026 regulations (Lei n.º 61/2025), certain permit holders—specifically those on the D7 Passive Income Visa—must complete two full years of legal residence in Portugal before they are eligible to sponsor family members.
Eligible Family Members
You may sponsor the following relatives:
- Spouse or Registered Partner: This includes legal marriages or uniao de facto (de facto unions) where you have lived together for at least two years, supported by documentation.
- Minor Children: Including adopted children of either the sponsor or the spouse.
- Adult Children: Only if they are unmarried, financially dependent on you, and enrolled in a Portuguese educational institution.
- Parents (First-Degree Ascendants): Of either the sponsor or the spouse, provided they are financially dependent. If the parents are over 65, dependency is generally presumed. If they are under 65, you must provide strict proof of their financial reliance on you.
- Minor Siblings: Only if they are under your legal guardianship.
Financial and Housing Thresholds
You must demonstrate that you can support your family without relying on the Portuguese social security system.
- Proof of Accommodation: You must provide a registered rental contract (registered with the Finanças) or a property deed. The property must be of an appropriate size for the number of family members (e.g., a T0/studio may be rejected for a family of four).
- Proof of Subsistence: You must show stable financial resources based on the Portuguese Minimum Wage (approx. €820+). You need:
- 100% of the minimum wage for yourself.
- 50% for each additional adult.
- 30% for each child.

Fees
Includes €90 visa fee, approx. €35 facilitator fee, and up to €83 for residence permit issuance.
