Requirements
The legal threshold for a Presidential Grant is remarkably open, yet the practical threshold for approval is exceptionally high.
- No Minimum Residency: You do not need to have lived in Poland for a specific number of years. You may apply even if you reside abroad.
- No Language Requirement: You are not legally required to pass the official Polish language B1 exam. However, a lack of Polish language skills is often viewed by the Chancellery as a lack of integration, which can lead to a refusal.
- Discretionary Nature: The President is not required to justify a refusal. If your application is denied, there is no legal avenue to appeal the decision.
- Security Clearance: You must have a "clean record." All applications are vetted by the Internal Security Agency (ABW) and the Police. Any perceived threat to national security or public order will result in an immediate rejection.
- Merit-Based Focus: Under current 2026 policy, the President prioritizes applicants with exceptional achievements in science, sports, culture, or those who have provided significant service to the Polish state.
- Polish Ancestry: While not a requirement, holding a Karta Polaka (Pole’s Card) or proving Polish ancestry significantly strengthens your case.

This is a fully discretionary process with no right to appeal and no requirement for the President to justify a refusal.

While there is no formal language requirement, the President's office frequently rejects applicants who do not demonstrate integration through Polish language skills.
