Eligibility Quiz
Are you 18 years of age or older?
Requirements
To qualify for naturalization through marriage, you must meet specific residency, marital, and integration thresholds:
- Marriage Duration: You must have been legally married to a Mexican citizen for at least two years prior to your application date.
- Legal Residency: You must have held a valid Residente Temporal (Temporary Resident) or Residente Permanente (Permanent Resident) card for at least two years immediately preceding the application.
- Critical Note: Time spent on a "Student" residency card (Residente Temporal Estudiante) does not count toward this two-year requirement.
- Physical Presence: You cannot have been outside of Mexico for more than a total of six months during the two-year period leading up to your application.
- Shared Domicile: You and your Mexican spouse must live together in a shared marital home within Mexico. If your spouse is currently serving the Mexican government abroad (on official commission), this requirement may be adjusted.
- Integration: You must demonstrate a "sufficient" level of Spanish and knowledge of Mexican history and culture. Applicants over the age of 60 are exempt from the history and culture exam but must still demonstrate Spanish proficiency.
