Citizenship by Descent (Irish Parent or Grandparent)

Ireland requires original long-form civil certificates. Photocopies, "short" certificates, or hospital-issued baptismal records are not accepted. Any document not in English or Irish must be accompanied by a certified translation.

Applicant Documents

• Original civil birth certificate (showing parental details).
• Marriage certificate or change of name document (if applicable).
• Certified photocopy of a current state-issued ID (Passport or Driver’s License).
• Two proofs of address (utility bills or bank statements) issued within the last six months.
• Two passport-sized photos, signed and dated by an authorized witness.

• Original civil birth certificate.
• Original civil marriage certificate (if applicable).
• Certified photocopy of current ID or an original death certificate if deceased.

Irish-Born Grandparent Documents

• Original civil birth certificate (obtainable from the HSE in the Republic or GRONI in Northern Ireland).
• Original civil marriage certificate.
• Original divorce decree or death certificate (if applicable).
