Documents Required
All foreign documents must be originals. Unless issued in a country with a bilateral exemption, documents must be apostilled or legalized. Any document not in Hungarian must be accompanied by a certified Hungarian translation (typically provided by OFFI).
Identity and Travel
- Valid Passport: Must be valid for at least the duration of the requested stay.
- Photographs: One recent facial photograph.
Proof of Relationship
- Certificates: Birth certificates, marriage certificates, or adoption papers.
- Hungarian Registration: If you are the spouse of a Hungarian citizen, your marriage must be registered in the Hungarian civil registry before you apply.
Financial and Health Proof
- Income Verification: Bank statements (last 6 months), employer certificates, or tax authority (NAV) certificates from the sponsor.
- Support Declaration: A notarized statement from the sponsor confirming they will provide for your maintenance.
- Health Insurance: Proof of comprehensive health insurance or sufficient funds to cover all potential medical expenses in Hungary.
Housing and Exit
- Accommodation Proof: A lease agreement, property deed, or a "statement of courtesy" (befogadó nyilatkozat) if staying with someone for free.
- Exit Proof: A valid return ticket or the financial means to purchase one to your home country.
