Eligibility Quiz
Do you have a clean criminal record and pose no threat to Hungary's national security?
Documents Required
You must provide a continuous "paper trail" of original vital records from yourself back to the ancestor in question.
Identity and Personal Documents
- Valid Passport or national ID card.
- Two recent passport-sized photos.
- Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV): For Simplified Naturalization, this must be handwritten in Hungarian.
- Clean Criminal Record Certificate: Usually required from your country of residence.
Proof of Lineage
- Birth Certificates: Your own, your parents', your grandparents', etc., until you reach the Hungarian ancestor.
- Marriage Certificates: Required for every generation to prove legal descent and name changes.
- Death Certificates: Often required for deceased ancestors in the chain.
Legalization and Translation
- OFFI Translations: Hungary generally only accepts translations from the Hungarian Office for Translation and Attestation (OFFI). Translations done by private companies abroad are frequently rejected.
- Apostilles: Documents issued by non-EU countries (like the US, Canada, or Australia) must typically bear an Apostille or be legalized by a Hungarian consulate to be recognized.
