Documents Required
The paperwork for Right of Abode is extensive and requires verification by multiple government agencies. All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified translations.
Identity and Legal Documents
- Application Form: An official form obtained from the Ministry of the Interior.
- Formal Application Letter: A signed letter addressed to the Minister for the Interior stating your intent and grounds for the application.
- Non-Citizen ID Card (G-Card): A photocopy of your mandatory Ghanaian ID for foreign residents.
- Police Clearance: A current criminal record clearance from the Ghana Police Service.
- Medical Report: A comprehensive health screening conducted exclusively at the Ghana Immigration Service Clinic.
Supporting Evidence for Diaspora Applicants
- Attestation Letters: Two written testimonials from "Ghanaians of repute" (such as Lawyers, Notaries Public, or Senior Public Officers) including copies of their national IDs.
- Financial/Investment Proof: Evidence of economic contribution, such as bank statements, audited company accounts, or proof of property ownership.
- Business Documentation: If you own a business, you must provide the Company Code, Tax Clearance Certificates for the last six years, and SSNIT (social security) returns for your employees.
Supporting Evidence for Former Ghanaians
- Renunciation Certificate: Official proof that you previously gave up Ghanaian citizenship.
- Birth Certificate: Original or certified copy of your Ghanaian birth certificate.
- Autobiography: A brief written history of your life and your ties to Ghana.
