Eligibility Quiz
Are you currently in the Czech Republic on a valid long-term residence permit for 'studies' or 'scientific research'?
Requirements
To qualify for this permit, you must meet specific educational and residency thresholds. This pathway is only available to third-country nationals (non-EU/EEA/Swiss) who fall into one of two categories:
- University Graduates: You must have successfully completed a university-accredited study program in the Czech Republic while holding a valid long-term residence permit for the purpose of studium (studies).
- Researchers: You must have completed your specific research activity while holding a valid long-term residence permit for the purpose of vědecký výzkum (scientific research).
Critical Limitations:
- In-Country Application Only: You must be physically present in the Czech Republic and hold a valid residence permit at the time of application.
- Strict Deadlines: You must apply before your current permit expires and no later than 30 days after successfully completing your studies or research. Note that "completion" usually refers to the date of your final exams or thesis defense, not your graduation ceremony.
- Non-Renewable: This permit is issued for a fixed term of 9 months. It cannot be extended under any circumstances. Before these 9 months expire, you must find a job or start a business and apply to change your purpose of stay (e.g., to an Employee Card).
Conditions & Warnings
The 30-day application window starts from the date of passing final state exams, not the graduation ceremony date.
This permit is strictly non-renewable and issued for exactly 9 months.
Applicants must already hold a valid Czech student or researcher residence permit to apply; it cannot be applied for from abroad.
Qualifications
No language proficiency is required for this specific residence permit.
