Eligibility Quiz
Are you a third-country national (non-EU/EEA/Swiss)?
Requirements
To qualify for this permit, you must meet specific relationship criteria and your "sponsor" must meet residency thresholds.
Eligible Family Members
- Spouses: You must be legally married to the resident. Unmarried partners generally do not qualify for this specific permit and should explore the Partnership Visa.
- Minor Children: Children under the age of 18, including adopted children.
- Dependent Adult Children: Children over 18 who cannot care for themselves due to serious health reasons.
- Solitary Parents: Parents over the age of 65 (or any age if they cannot care for themselves) who are joining a child who holds a Czech residence permit.
The "Waiting Period"
The most common reason for rejection is applying before the sponsor is eligible.
- Standard Rule: The family member already in Czechia must have resided there for at least 15 months before you can apply for this residence permit.
- Exceptions: If the sponsor holds a specific employment category (like certain highly skilled roles), this waiting period may be reduced to 6 months.
- The Workaround: If your sponsor has not hit the 15-month mark yet, you should apply for a Long-Term Visa (Type D) for family purposes, which has no waiting period.
Conduct and Compliance
Under the "Three-Offense Rule" introduced in 2026, your permit can be revoked if you commit three finalized administrative offenses (such as traffic violations or public order disturbances) within a single calendar year.
