Citizenship by Marriage (Section 11a)

All foreign-language documents must be accompanied by certified German translations. Depending on the issuing country, documents may also require an Apostille or full diplomatic legalization.

Identity and Status Documents

• Valid Passport: Your current national passport.
• Birth Certificate: An original copy, legalized as required.
• Marriage/Partnership Certificate (Heiratsurkunde): Proof of the legal union.
• Spouse’s Proof of Citizenship: Your spouse’s Austrian citizenship certificate (Staatsbürgerschaftsnachweis) or valid Austrian passport.
• Registration Certificate (Meldezettel): Proof of residence for both you and your spouse to confirm the shared household.

Supporting Evidence

• Financial Proof: Pay slips, tax assessments (Einkommensteuerbescheide), or employment contracts covering the last 3 years.
• Language and Civic Certificates: Your B1 German certificate and proof of passing the national citizenship exam.
• Criminal Record Extracts: Required from your home country if you have lived in Austria for less than 15 years.
