Eligibility Quiz
Are you applying from outside the United Kingdom?
Documents Required
The Home Office requires a clear "paper trail" linking you to your UK-born grandparent. All documents must be originals or certified copies. If your documents are not in English or Welsh, you must provide a certified translation.
- Identity: A valid passport or travel document.
- The Ancestry Chain:
- Your full birth certificate.
- The full birth certificate of the parent through whom you are claiming ancestry.
- The birth certificate of the grandparent born in the UK.
- Evidence of Name Changes: Marriage or civil partnership certificates if you, your parent, or your grandparent changed names (e.g., through marriage).
- Legal Adoption Papers: If you or the relevant parent were adopted.
- Financial Evidence: Personal bank statements, usually covering the last three months, showing you have sufficient savings.
- Evidence of Work Intention: While not strictly mandatory for all, providing a CV (resume) or evidence of job applications can prevent a refusal based on "lack of intent to work."
- Tuberculosis (TB) Certificate: Required if you are applying from a country where a TB test is mandatory for UK entry.
