Documents Required
While the Home Office recognizes that refugees often flee with very little, you are expected to provide as much evidence as possible to support your identity and your claim.
Identity and Travel Documents
- Passports and National ID cards: For yourself and any family members with you.
- Birth and Marriage Certificates: To prove family relationships.
- Travel Evidence: Boarding passes, tickets, or any documentation showing the route you took to reach the UK.
Evidence of Persecution
- Personal Testimony: Your written statement and verbal account during interviews.
- Supporting Paperwork: Police reports, court documents, or medical records (particularly those documenting injuries or torture).
- Affiliations: Membership cards for political parties, religious groups, or social organizations that put you at risk.
- External Proof: News articles, human rights reports, or witness statements that corroborate the situation in your home country or your specific experience.
Note on Translations: Any document not in English or Welsh must be accompanied by a certified translation.
