Eligibility Quiz
Are you a woman?
Requirements
To qualify for citizenship through this pathway, you must meet several high-level eligibility thresholds:
- Gender: You must be a woman. While legislative amendments (such as HB 1195) have been proposed to grant these rights to men, they have not yet been fully ratified into the Constitution.
- Marital Status: You must be currently married to a Nigerian citizen, or have been married to one (this includes widows). The marriage must be legally recognized under Nigerian law, which includes Civil, Customary, or Islamic marriages.
- Age and Character: You must be of "full age" (18 years or older) and be able to demonstrate "good character" to the satisfaction of the President.
- Intent and Allegiance: You must show a clear intention to be domiciled (permanently resident) in Nigeria and be willing to take the Oath of Allegiance to the Federal Republic.
- Dual Citizenship: Nigeria permits dual citizenship for those who acquire Nigerian status by registration, provided your home country also allows it. You are required to disclose all existing citizenships during the process.
