Documents Required
You must provide clear evidence of your identity and your link to India. All documents issued by foreign authorities (such as birth or marriage certificates) must be apostilled or legalized by the Indian Embassy in that country.
Identity and Citizenship
- Current Foreign Passport: Must have at least 6 months of validity remaining.
- Surrender Certificate: If you were previously an Indian citizen, you must provide proof that you formally renounced your Indian citizenship and surrendered your Indian passport.
- Photographs: Specific 2x2 inch (51x51 mm) digital and physical photos with a white background.
Proof of Indian Origin
- Historical Documents: A copy of your previous Indian passport, a Domicile Certificate, Nativity Certificate, or agricultural land records.
- Educational Records: School or college leaving certificates issued in India.
- Relationship Proof: For descendants, birth certificates must clearly show the names of both parents to establish the lineage.
Spousal Documentation
- Marriage Certificate: Must be apostilled and show the marriage has been registered for at least two years.
- OCI Status of Spouse: Proof of the spouse's Indian citizenship or OCI card.
