Documents Required
While the specific documents depend on your category, you should generally prepare the following:
- Identity Documents: A valid passport is required. If it is impossible to obtain one from your embassy (e.g., due to persecution), you must provide alternative proof of identity, such as birth certificates, military IDs, or national ID cards.
- BAMF Decision (Bescheid): For those granted protection within Germany, the official written decision from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees is the primary document needed to issue your residence permit.
- Proof of Health Insurance: Confirmation of coverage by a German statutory or private health insurance provider.
- Rental Agreement: A signed lease showing you have adequate living space.
- Certified Translations: Any foreign civil documents (birth or marriage certificates) must be translated into German by a sworn translator recognized in Germany.
- Proof of Livelihood: While not required for recognized refugees, this is critical for those applying under § 25b (Sustainable Integration) or for extensions of § 25 (5).
