Documents Required
All documents must be submitted as originals with two copies. Documents not in German or English must be accompanied by certified translations.
Identity and Status Documents
- National Visa Application: Two completed and signed forms.
- Valid Passport: Must be valid for at least 3–6 months beyond your intended arrival.
- Sponsor’s Proof of Status: A copy of the sponsor’s German residence permit, their passport, and their current German address registration (Meldebescheinigung).
Proof of Relationship
- Certificates: Marriage certificates, registered partnership certificates, or birth certificates for children.
- Legalization: Depending on your home country, these documents often require an Apostille or formal legalization by a German embassy to be recognized.
Financial and Housing Documents
- Proof of Income: The sponsor’s employment contract and the last three months of payslips. Self-employed sponsors must provide recent tax assessments.
- Lease Agreement: A signed rental contract (Mietvertrag) and a written confirmation from the landlord (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung).
- Health Insurance: Proof of travel health insurance for the initial entry period until you are enrolled in the sponsor’s German statutory or private insurance plan.
Supporting Documents
- Language Certificate: An A1 German certificate from a certified provider (e.g., Goethe-Institut or Telc), unless an exemption applies.
