Documents Required
While the Beninese authorities recognize that people fleeing for their lives often leave without paperwork, you should gather as much of the following as possible to support your claim:
- Identity Documents: Passports, national ID cards, birth certificates, or military service records from your home country.
- Proof of Entry: Any documentation showing when and where you crossed into Benin.
- Supporting Evidence: Documents, photos, or news reports that support your claim of persecution or the dangerous conditions in your home country.
- Photographs: Passport-sized photos will be required for your Asylum Seeker Certificate and subsequent Refugee Identity Card.
- Biometric Data: You will be required to provide fingerprints and digital facial scans during the registration process with the National Commission for Refugees and Stateless Persons (CNRA).
