Documents Required
The documentation required depends on which pathway you are pursuing. All documents not in French must be accompanied by a certified translation and may require an Apostille or legalization by a Beninese consulate.
For Traditional Descent
- Proof of Parent's Nationality: A Beninese National ID card, Passport, or Certificat de Nationalité (Certificate of Nationality).
- Birth Certificate: An official copy showing the clear parent-child relationship.
For Nationality by Recognition
- Proof of Descent: You must provide at least one of the following:
- DNA Test Results: Must be from a laboratory or organization specifically accredited by the Beninese government.
- Genealogical Records: Detailed family trees or historical documentation.
- Testimonies: Notarized statements from recognized community leaders or diaspora organizations.
- Identity Documents: A valid passport from your current country of citizenship.
- Background Check: A clean criminal record (police clearance) from your country of residence.
